HVAC in Building Design

The correct selection and integration of an environmental control system for a building will have a dramatic impact both on the condition of the environment and on the associated running costs. Ventilation, filtration and temperature control all play their part in how comfortable a building is to work in. However, factors such as set-point creep, outdoor unit location and condition have a dramatic effect on the running costs of a system.

Air Consulting can survey and assess the effectiveness of the HVAC system and make independent recommendations. As we do not carry out any contracting work or supply equipment, our opinion is truly unbiased.

Many buildings dispose of heat from refrigeration systems, while simultaneously running heating systems to provide heating to offices etc. By applying a holistic approach to system design, Air Consulting can integrate various aspects of the building to create significant savings from system synergy.

Process Engineering

The integration of cooling systems and microprocessor controlled flow modulating valves can produce very energy efficient systems. However, systems tend to grow and develop as demand changes and rarely do plant engineers have an opportunity to carry out a bottom-up survey of their plant, to see if what they ended up with, was what they originally intended.

While zero risk may be unattainable in any engineering system, a balance of risk and contingency will ensure that downtime is kept to a minimum. The first step in reducing a risk is to identify it and by carrying out a systematic examination of the process Air Consulting can identify and evaluate the potential problem areas. These surveys also often identify areas in which energy savings can be achieved, generally from the operational set-points of the primary chilling plant.

Refrigeration Integration

Gathered from over thirty years of experience, Air Consulting are adept at interpreting Client requirements and translating this into a viable, cost-effective design. We work closely with others involved in the design process to ensure that the refrigeration system is at the heart of the facility and fully integrated with all building services.

Integration can take many forms, from using “waste” heat from plant to provide heating for processes and offices or using ambient air to pre-cool or reduce heat load. Air Consulting take a Holistic approach to refrigeration engineering rather than dividing the separate elements between refrigeration and building services.
