System Synergy
Performance Testing
The performance of any refrigeration system is subject to many and varied conditions. Load, ambient temperature, refrigerant charge, system setup and user input all ensure that the running costs of two identical refrigeration systems can be vastly different.
Apart from running costs, the life expectancy of poorly maintained systems operating outside their normal envelope will be greatly reduced, leading to expensive service bills or premature equipment failure.
Using a Refrigeration System Performance Analyser enables Air Consulting to identify the Coefficient of Performance of a refrigeration system and provide the end user or refrigeration contractor with the information necessary to resolve issues before they become a problem.
Energy Management
For many food-service companies, energy is the single largest operating expense and for the majority of those, the refrigeration system is the largest source of energy usage. While the majority of facilities are unique, Air Consulting’s thirty years of experience means that savings or performance improvements can be quickly identified and corrective action recommended.
There are several strands to the energy saving strategy:
- For new installations, Air Consulting can develop a Specification to ensure that the design uses the most suitable, energy efficient technology.
- For existing systems, Air Consulting can use a System Performance Analyser to provide the Refrigeration Contractor with the information to optimise the refrigeration system.
- Ancillary items such as lighting and fan motors add significantly to the overall energy bill. By calculating the capital costs of replacing or adapting the existing components with new, energy-efficient technology against the achievable savings, Air Consulting can calculate the payback period so that the end user is aware of their options.
Environmental Compliance
In recent years, environmental concerns have led to a significant increase in the number and scope of compliance imperatives across all global regulatory environments. With the ODS (EU Regulation 1005/2009) and latest revision of the F-gas (EU Regulation 842/2006) now in force, the emphasis, now more than ever, is on knowing exactly what refrigerant you have, how much you have and ensuring that you system is leak-tight.
The onus to maintain accurate records and ensure that the system complies with the regulations is now firmly placed on the operator (not the refrigeration contractor) and ignorance of the regulations is no excuse for non-compliance in the eyes of the law.
Air Consulting can assist you ensure that your system complies with all pertinent guides, recommendations, regulations and codes of practice.
